Community health transportation pilot project

This website facilitates a buddy-like system in Fort Nelson in order to alleviate some of the health concerns that come with living in a rural community.

This will be a community volunteer initiative.

The purpose of this system would be to help community members access health care, whether that means getting to doctor’s appointments in neighboring communities, or providing interim first-aid until community members can get to more advanced caretakers. Community members would participate in this program on a volunteer basis, however, those that do volunteer would be supported in receiving a certain standard of first aid training and a certain level of drivers license. These volunteers would also receive gas money for any transportation provided. The idea would be that community members would receive a list of people they can call if in need of certain assistance, whether that be that they need help driving to a nearby community for an appointment, or if they have had a minor injury that they aren’t prepared to resolve on their own. Volunteers would receive first aid training in order to be prepared for if things turn for the worst, however they wouldnt actively be expected to perform extreme first aid- this is where the partnership with BC Ambulance Services comes in. Exact details would have to be discussed in detail as to how this would possibly work and also keep everyone safe.
